According to a March 2016 Harris Poll, the majority U.S. drivers believe the longest-range plug-in hybrid is 261 miles. Long-range battery-electric vehicles are approaching that range on a single charge, but the driving range on the 2017 Ford Fusion Energi is an EPA-estimated 610 miles with a full tank and fully charged battery.
"Plug-in hybrids are electric vehicles until you run down the battery, then they work exactly like a conventional hybrid," said Wade Jackson, marketing manager for Ford Fusion. "Fusion Energi – with a full battery and a full tank of gas – can go from San Diego, through Los Angeles and all the way up to San Francisco, and still have up to 110 miles of range remaining."
Plug-in hybrids like the Fusion Energi and the Ford C-Max Energi offer flexibility unmatched by any other type of electrified vehicle. The upcoming Fusion Energi can be charged at home using a 120-volt outlet, and will drive for 21 miles using only its electric motor.
The average daily commute in the Louisville area is less than 20 miles -- meaning you could go for months without seeing a gas station.
After the 21-mile electric range is expended, the Fusion Energi has another 588 miles on a full, 14-gallon tank of gas. If you drove out of a Sternberg Automotive Group location with a 2017 Fusion Energi and drove east, you could make it to Washington D.C. without stopping.
